BHUTAN FESTIVAL
The Dream Destine
Bhutan Festival
Bhutan is famed for its lively Tshechus, or festivals, celebrated annually as per the Buddhist lunar calendar. These festivals, honoring Guru Rinpoche, the Indian saint who brought Buddhist teachings to Bhutan in the 8th century, fall on the auspicious tenth day of the lunar month, believed to be the day of his significant deeds.
Each region has a specific time for its Tshechu, acting as crucial social gatherings uniting dispersed villages. The festivities are vibrant, accompanied by bustling markets, facilitating social bonding and robust commerce. It’s an excellent opportunity to engage with villagers from diverse regions, often traveling for days to partake in the festivities.
The Tshechu festivities commence with rituals and traditional dances, featuring monks and skilled locals adorned in colorful silk costumes and intricate papier-mâché masks. These enchanting performances, set against the backdrop of monasteries or local Dzongs, attract both locals and visitors, bestowing blessings upon the spectators. Bhutan truly comes alive during this cultural celebration, offering an unforgettable experience.
